He's the author of two previous books of
writing instruction, How to Write Fast (While Writing Well) and Elements
of Article Writing: Structure and Flow, as well as a book of humor, Double-Parked
on Main Street.
His teaching and lecturing on writing includes creating two courses for Writer's Online Workshops, serving on the faculty of the Maui Writers Conference, and speaking to groups including the Southwest Writers Conference, the Society of Professional Journalists, the American Society of Journalists and Authors, and many more. He is the director of the annual Maui Writers Retreat.
Fryxell is the author of more than 1,000 magazine and newspaper pieces, for publications including Playboy, Reader's Digest and Travel & Leisure. He's been an editor of TWA Ambassador, Horizon, Pitt and Milwaukee magazines, features and business editor of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, and executive producer of Microsoft's Twin Cities Sidewalk Web site. He founded Family Tree Magazine, the nation's largest-circulation family history publication. His work as a writer and editor has earned more than 100 awards. He's profiled in the book Super Searcher, Author, Scribe: Successful Writers Share Their Internet Research Secrets and is included in the current edition of Who's Who in America.
